Another summer of camping is right around the corner! Now is the perfect time to clean out your RV and stock up on new equipment for your next adventure. For first-time RVers, you might want to check out our more extensive packing list first. We asked some of our more seasoned RVing friends to share their favorite camping gear, and their answers may surprise you. While camping is all about spending time in nature, here are some examples of technology that help enhance the experience so you and your family will want to spend more time RVing.
Always Be Prepared
There are those items that you appreciate so much out at the campsite; a flood flashlight and headlamp, a small stepstool to easily set up camp, a little broom and dustpan to keep camp tidy, outdoor plastic rug to create a place to gather and get off the dirt, and I never leave home without a gas fire pit!
You can shop all of Tara’s must-have camping items, from the just-for-fun to the super functional, on her Amazon list.

Never Run out of Fridge Space
We didn’t add a cooler to our truck until we made the journey to Alaska a couple of years ago. We ended up adding a Truma Cooler portable fridge/freezer and went for the dual-zone big guy. We only used one half of the Cooler to keep our drinks cold and to pack away lunch on tent camping adventures. We knew we wanted to go fishing while in Alaska, so the second zone ended up being used to freeze all the fish so we could take them back to the lower 48 with us. We brought back 50 pounds of fish, and that lasted us for a while! Although we have since moved to the smaller Truma C44 single zone, it stays on 24 hours a day and is used all the time. Backup freezer, camping cooler, beverage cooler, we basically no longer need ice because our beverages are always cold. It really has been a great addition that we didn’t know we needed.

Stay Connected On the Road
This may not be the most popular answer, but for us, it is mobile hotspots or Starlink. Some way we can stay connected to friends and family while traveling and continue to be able to connect to get work done remotely. We are on the move a lot, and it is great to be able to FaceTime or have a Zoom call with someone we love, even if we are a thousand miles away.

Upgrade Your RV and Save
In a piece about getting new camping gear, we would be remiss not to remind our readers of our retrofitting services. According to a recent survey by Go RVing, 39% of RV owners consider purchasing a new model because they want different options. But buying a whole new rig because of a loud air conditioner or an ineffective water heater isn’t always a realistic option.
Luckily, Truma Aventa rooftop ACs, Truma AquaGo instant water heaters, and Truma VarioHeat furnaces are all available as aftermarket upgrades for compatible RVs! By considering a system upgrade you can save money, extend the life of your tried-and-true RV, and make memories for years to come.
Retrofit installations can be scheduled with any Truma Service Location and with select Truma Dealer/Service partners across the country. Complete the form here, and we can help you find a provider near you.
