Truma’s North American headquarters features a state-of-the-art climate chamber which can be leveraged to increase ROI for RV manufacturers. The Truma Climate Chamber allows RV manufacturers to test RVs in extreme cold weather conditions. Truma has developed a clear testing and certification process for RVs so that manufacturers can optimize their heating system layout to improve heating efficiency.
Manufacturers can gain assurance that their RV will exceed consumer expectations in cold weather situations. Truma provides manufacturers with a comprehensive testing report and recommendations for potential improvements to help meet international standards. Testing is fee-based. Customized testing is handled on a case-by-case basis.

Cold Weather Certification
There are two standards that will be utilized for this certification. They are both currently used as the standards throughout Truma internationally:
a. DIN EN 1645-1 – This standard is for non-motorized RVs
b. DIN EN 1646-1 – This standard is for motorized RVs
Other than the differentiation of motorized and non-motorized, the basics of the testing are the same.
Silver Certification
An average temperature difference of at least 20° Delta (36°F; 20°C) between the inside and outside of the RV shall be achieved in 2 hours or less when the outside temperature is 32°F (0°C).
Gold Certification
An average temperature difference of at least 35° Delta (63°F; 35°C) between the inside and outside of the RV shall be achieved in 4 hours or less when the outside temperature is 5°F (-15°C).
Silver Certification
An average temperature difference of at least 20° Delta (36°F; 20°C) between the inside and outside of the RV shall be achieved in 2 hours or less when the outside temperature is 32°F (0°C).
Gold Certification
An average temperature difference of at least 35° Delta (63°F; 35°C) between the inside and outside of the RV shall be achieved in 4 hours or less when the outside temperature is 5°F (-15°C).
We use Combi and VarioHeat systems in Winnebago camper vans. Their efficiency and quiet heat really enhance the winter vanlife experience.
