Did you know that Truma offers a hydronic heating system that not only evenly heats your RV but can also provide warm floors, hot showers, and warm towels after that hot shower?
Truma has been the proud supplier of Alde Hydronic Heating systems to the U.S. and Canadian RV markets since 2019. Yet, what many do not know, is that the Alde story began many decades earlier, in the small town of Färlöv, Sweden.
In 1949, an inventor by the name of Alde Rask went into business manufacturing products for the European trailer market. In 1966, Alde debuted its first mobile boiler and quickly became a world leader in hydronic heating for the RV industry. In fact, Alde Rask and Truma’s founder Phillip Kreis forged a professional friendship as the two men led their companies to RV industry success.
Alde became part of the Truma Group in 1997, and since then the Swedish company has been an integral part of the overall heating portfolio. To this day, the Alde boilers are still designed and manufactured in Sweden, with full system assembly for the North American market performed at Truma North America Headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana.
What sets Alde systems apart?
Alde heating systems are a different breed of RV heating. Unlike most RV furnaces, Alde systems do not use forced air as the primary method of keeping the coach warm. Instead, Alde systems use radiant, hydronic heating to create silent, gentle air movements that fill the RV with pleasant warmth and natural humidity.
Truma works closely with the RV manufacturers to develop unique schematics for each of their floor plans to ensure even heating throughout the trailer or motorhome. The Alde assembly team cuts and bends piping to fit each blueprint. These unique pieces are kitted together with the boiler, convectors, and other pieces of the system for each unique floorplan and sent to the manufacturer to be installed.
How does hydronic heating work?
The Alde Compact 3030 boiler is powered by a combination of fuel and electricity to move heated glycol through a system of pipes and convectors built into the walls and cabinetry of the RV. This allows the RV to heat up through natural convection, meaning the hot air will rise up away from the convectors installed throughout the coach. This provides even heat with minimal noise and without the dry air often associated with forced air furnaces.
More than a heating system
In addition to heating, the Alde system also has a built-in water heater with continuous hot water capabilities on select models. The Alde Compact 3030 has a 2.6 gallon water tank integrated into the boiler so that the water is heated by the same mechanism used to heat the glycol. With the Alde Compact 3030 plus, you can enjoy long luxurious showers even while camping thanks to the added continuous hot water feature.
Alde heated towel rails are available in different models, sizes, and colors. These innovative accessories blend seamlessly into the design of most RV bathrooms and are connected directly to the Alde heating system.
Alde underfloor heating provides an extra level of comfort from the moment your feet touch the floor. During the floorplan drafting stage, RV manufacturers have the option to include heat conducting plates and pipes in their Alde system kit. These are milled into the floor of the RV during construction.
Truma and Alde both celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2024. From friendly competition to partners in excellence, their combined 150 years of providing efficient and reliable heating systems have been a standard-bearer for the RV industry. We are proud to continue that legacy here in North America.
