As the seasons change, it is time to start thinking about winterizing your RV. While Alde 3020 heating systems make for cozy winter camping, it is important to fully winterize your Alde 3020 anytime it is not in use, and there is a risk of freezing temperatures. This will prevent costly damage to your RV so you can use it for years to come. Winterizing the Alde 3020 can be done by simply draining the water from the system.
Step 1: Turn off the Alde heating system and allow the unit to cool completely
Step 2: Depressurize the Alde 3020 by turning off the freshwater pump and opening all hot and cold water fixtures.
Step 3: Locate the yellow drain valve(s) (Consult your RV owner’s manual to determine the location of this valve) and raise the yellow drain lever to a vertical position.
Step 3a: If your RV is equipped with an Alde Flow, follow these instructions:
- Drain the Alde Flow by locating the second drain valve and raising the yellow lever to a vertical position.
- Antifreeze method: follow the recommendations of the RV manufacturer and fill the water system with a non-toxic antifreeze.
Step 4: Ensure water is draining underneath the RV
Step 5: We recommend leaving all taps in the open position while stored for the winter
Be sure that your LPG supply is turned off when not in use. If you wash your RV during the winter, make sure the water does not enter the Alde gas flue to avoid freezing damage.
Other Maintenance:
The Alde 3020 is a hydronic heating system, meaning it uses glycol to transfer heat through the pipes and radiators inside the walls of the RV instead of relying on forced air. The glycol should be changed every 2 years to keep the system working properly and to prevent corrosion.
Glycol exchanges should only be performed by Alde-trained technicians, including our Truma Mobile Service Technicians. You can call 1-855-558-7862 ext. 1 to schedule an appointment with a Truma technician or to find a qualified service center in your area.
