Award: For Truma crash sensor

The DCC Technology Award is presented at the CMT in Stuttgart

At the start of the CMT Truma will be receiving a special prize for its gas pressure regulation systems Mono/DuoControl CS with the integrated crash sensor: The DCC Technology Award from the German Camping-Club. The DCC bestows this prize in recognition of innovative developments that provide more comfort and safety in recreational vehicles.

Safe heating while on the go

Safe heating while on the go – no longer a problem thanks to the gas pressure regulation systems from Truma. This is all possible due to the installed crash sensor which immediately closes the gas supply in the event of an accident thus preventing the gas from escaping should a line be torn or should any pipes and devices be damaged. "The crash sensor offers absolute safety for everyone that wants to use their gas system while on the road," explains product manager Nicolas Toomer. This Truma product, which is available for single or dual-cylinder systems, satisfies all European standards and regulations - even the European Heating Appliance Directive. This directive specifies that all vehicles built in 2007 and later must have a safety shut-off, if the liquid gas heaters are to be operated when on the road.

Simple retrofitting

The Truma crash sensor is purely mechanical, does not need a power supply and is independent of pressure losses. "As a result, the crash sensor is much easier to retrofit because it is not necessary to calculate the gas system flow rate," says Toomer. The principle is incredibly simple: A steel ball sits in the middle of a special fixture and keeps the gas shut-off valve open. Even a low impact speed of 20 km/h will cause the ball to fall out of its cup holder and close the gas supply. Once the crash sensor has triggered, the valve can be opened again via a reset button which causes the ball to roll back into its cup so that the crash sensor is operational again.

Automatic changeover system

The gas pressure regulation systems from Truma are not only extremely safe, they also offer a high level of comfort. The DuoControl CS for dual-cylinder systems automatically switches from the empty operational cylinder to the full spare cylinder. If the empty cylinder is replaced, the current operational cylinder can be selected manually at the push of a button. This ensures that the gas system does not use the full cylinder as the operational cylinder but continues to use the opened cylinder. The remote display inside the vehicle clearly indicates which cylinder is in use. Another advantage is the simple vertical or horizontal assembly of the gas pressure regulator in the cylinder box. "It is also possible to upgrade the single cylinder MonoControl CS to dual cylinder operation," says Toomer. Truma supplies six different high-pressure hoses with hose rupture guards for the gas pressure regulation systems to fit the gas cylinder valves used in the various European countries.

Presentation of the DCC Technology Award: 13th January 2012

The Comfort package from Truma offers the ideal solution for safe heating when on the road. This is also underscored by the DCC Technology Award. Nicolas Toomer is especially pleased about the award because the idea for the crash sensor came from two Truma employees. "This shows that we develop products for campers by campers". The Technology Award 2012 will be presented by the DCC president Karl Zahlmann on 13th January 2012 after the CMT opening press conference.
