50 years Truma Heaters – A success story based on experience and innovation

Truma will be marking a special anniversary in 2012: 50 years of caravan heaters. In December 1961 the company founder Philipp Kreis developed the "first officially recognised caravan heater" – the Truma-matic. This paved the way for an unusual success story. The first Truma caravan heater not only made caravanning warmer and more comfortable, it was the kick-start for winter camping. Thanks to its experience and innovative power, Truma has become an expert for heating and warm water in motorcaravans and caravans. Today it has a wide range of gas, combined gas-electric and diesel heaters for all vehicle types and needs. 50 years of Truma heaters – reason enough to look back on this success story.

1961

Thanks to its closed system and thermo-electrical safety pilot, the Truma-matic is completely safe. The high-performance burner brings a heating output of 1.2 kW. Even then this device stood out thanks to its low weight, small size and maintenance-free operation. The Truma-matic meets the strict guidelines of the Liquid Gas Association and is therefore the "first officially recognised caravan heater".

1963

The Trumatic-S made a quantum leap with its newly developed aluminium heat exchanger: It increases the efficiency of the Truma gas heater from 82% to 98%. The Trumatic-S has a heating output of 2.1 kW. Flexible installation options allow it to be fitted in all caravan models. The aluminium heat exchanger is still the heart of the Truma S-heaters today

1966

The Truma caravan heater is continuously being improved. For example, the new Piezo ignitor is further developed. The new Piezo ignitor makes handling much easier thanks to the push button next to the control knob. The heater is not only approved in Germany, but also in many other countries. In 1966 Truma cooperated with the dealers to build up the first customer service network.

1967/68

Larger caravans need more heating output: To meet this demand, Truma launches the Trumatic-S 3000. It has a heating output of 3.5 kW. Truma also supplies the first warm air distribution system: The Trumavent fan distributes the warm air via pipes and various outlets individually and quietly within the recreational vehicle.

1971/72

Truma produces the Trumatic-S 5000. It has two heat exchangers and two burners to supply a heating output of 5.8 kW. A common waste gas discharge guarantees optimum safety. In 1972 Truma sets up its own customer service with mobile service technicians that travel to the customer on the camping site or to their homes.

1975

The Trumatic-E is the first heater that can be installed out of sight in various positions. The device does not radiate direct heat and offers optimum safety thanks to the electronic control system and function monitoring system. It is the most compact liquid gas heater and is frequently installed in lorry cabs, loading areas, on boats or as an auxiliary heater in recreational vehicles.

1976

The Truma S-heaters all have electronic automatic ignitors. The ignitor uses the ionisation principle to automatically recognise the flame and will reignite if the flame goes out.

1980

The S-heater models are further improved both in terms of the technology and also the design. The technical optimisations primarily affect the heat exchanger, the ignitor and main burner, the safety pilot valve and the automatic ignitors.

1994

Truma sets new standards for "even more comfort": The Trumatic-C is able to supply heat and warm water from one device. The space-saving and hidden installation as well as the fully automatic, electronically monitored operation make it the perfect heater for motorcaravans.

1996/98

The S-heaters are completely overhauled. The modern covers with their rounded form and lamella warm air outlets create a simple, modern and attractive design.

1998

The electrical auxiliary heater Ultraheat is the ideal companion for the Truma S-models. It heats extremely quickly and makes use of the S-heater's fan to distribute the warm air throughout the caravan.

2007/08

Truma launches a new heater generation – the Combi family. The units supply heating and warm water in one and have an extremely high efficiency level of up to 97%. They are also compact, very light, economical and environmentally-friendly. The Combi is available with 4000 or 6000 Watt, as a pure liquid gas and as a combined gas-electric heater. Since 2008 Truma also supplies a diesel model with a burner from J. Eberspächer.
