The choice of installation location

Along with various other factors, the choice of installation location plays a key role in ensuring optimum air conditioning within the vehicle. Therefore, you should select the system's installation location on the basis of the following criteria:

• Centre of gravity as close as possible to the axle
• Installation location opposite entrance door
• Ability to run the cold air ducts upwards (unless eco installation is desired)
• Ability to position the remote control receiver for optimum control

The installation process

The actual process of installing the air conditioning unit is really easy. All you need are two cut-outs in the floor of the vehicle to enable air exchange (air inlet, air outlet) and a hole for the condensation trap. The holes in the floor are cut out using the template supplied. After that, the 230 V connection is made, the infrared receiver for the remote control is installed and a connection for the circulating air is established between the installation and living areas.
Thanks to Truma’s flexible cold air ducts, you can route the cold air in accordance with your individual needs. Naturally, you have the option of reconfiguring this later on should you need to.

Cold air distribution

The sky is practically the limit as far as options for routing the cold air are concerned. Four examples are provided below:

Eco solution. Quick, easy and cost-effective

If you want to avoid an elaborate installation process and only intend to use the air conditioning to cool your vehicle down at night, for example, you will find the eco solution for cold air distribution quick to implement. Although the air outlets remain on the floor, the cool air gets properly distributed within the interior.

Comfort solution. Functional and convenient.

With the comfort solution, the cold air is routed upwards through ducts (e.g. in the wardrobe). As a result, the air is distributed evenly throughout the interior without creating any draughts.

Please also remember to observe the following installation advice to ensure optimum cooling comfort:

• nstall the air outlet diffusers towards the top of the vehicle (e.g. between the storage compartments)
• The cold air ductwork for the complete cold air distribution system must not exceed a maximum length of 15 m; each individual section should be no longer than 8 m.
• The cold air ducts should be as short as possible and form a straight line with the air outlet diffusers.
• Do not route the cold air ducts close to sources of heat (e.g. behind the refrigerator). This will help you prevent condensation.
• To ensure proper air exchange, the circulating air must be drawn in from the vehicle’s interior in the direct vicinity of the device: Either through an additional air grille or via several small opening with a total area of at least 300 cm². If it is not possible to draw the air in directly from the living area because of the installation conditions, use the flexible air conditioning intake from Truma.

Tips for correct cooling

Cooling - the right way to do it

There are a number of ways in which you can significantly improve the performance of your air conditioning unit in a caravan or motor home. Simply follow the following tips and advice to help you keep your cool when the heat is on.

• As far as possible, park your vehicle in the shade - the higher the level of insolation, the hotter it gets inside the vehicle.
• Air the vehicle thoroughly before switching on the air conditioning unit - this will cool the living area down even more quickly.
• When attaching skirts or similar to the vehicle, ensure that there are enough openings to allow the air to circulate properly - an accumulation of air underneath the vehicle prevents the warm exhaust air from moving away and reduces the cooling power.
• Ease the situation by using blinds to provide shade. The use of a flysheet, window coatings and protective sheets also reduces heat radiation - because direct insolation via skylights and windows can also increase the temperature.
• Clean your roof regularly - because dirty roofs have a tendency to heat up more.
• Close the doors and windows when running your air conditioning unit - because open doors or windows make proper cooling impossible.
• Keep the difference between the internal and external temperatures reasonable in terms of the settings you make. The circulated air is cleaned and dried during operation. By drying the hot and humid air, a pleasant climate can be created even when the difference in temperature is only slight - excessive differences in temperature between "inside" and "outside" are unpleasant and can even lead to colds.
